I've been doing OH squats for a bit. First of all I hate you since you already have most of the flexibility you need and all you need is the core control and balance. I'm still struggling with the flexibility. You need a lighter implement really in order to get the balance down. It's much easier that way. A wooden dowel of some kind.

The bar just has to stay straight overhead in a line with the scapula and heels/middle feet. I think you biggest problem is you just need to SLOW IT DOWN. Take a deep deep breath into your belly and tighten everything up and go down with control concentrating solely on the mechanics of it not on getting the rep. Even if you only do one good rep at a time before you need to rest that is better.

But this is one of the "new" things I was thinking about. Basically when I started doing them, even before I could do a good one I started around of PR's on military press, box squats, deads, etc...

Widdoes you should DEF give them a go. Really really good....and humbling.

Another thing I've been doing is overhead supports or what is otherwise know as "jerk supports".

i need core control and balance. shite....

ok...so: if i do more work on this with lower rep ranges to get the hang of it, its good. cool. ill work on it.

im glad i dont need to nail down flexibility though :D

The flexibility for these is tougher than core control and balance.

I think your stance is wider than your usual stance but like Widdoes says, I take a wider stance on these. And don't worry about going so low right now. Worry about getting deeper later since you already have the ROM. And grunt a lot when you're doing them :biglaugh:

The grunt is a must :biglaugh:

LOL, the first time I did them it was like I was having a full body convulsion :D. Probably why they are so damn effectvie. Every single muslce in your body working at once it seems.

thanks for the advice E :) i know what the form is "supposed" to look like...the difficulty is in actually maintaining that perfect line through my hips, shoulders and the bar....but i think ill practice more and in a month or so i should atleast see some small improvements :)

Thanks for the video , Sent. I have never seen these done before and just by watching they look harder then they sound. I may just have to give them a go to see how they feel.
