Goodluck with the home gym Big Guy! I used my dad's weight lifting shit when I first started out and since it was in my basement I wanted (and did lol) to work out all the time! It's like a secret hide out for big kids haha
It will definitely reduce the stress caused by "Amateur Night" at your regular gym. |
ya, nothing beats a home gym...My old man worked at a steel mill so all our weights were work made.
Good luck with the creation. |

Good call Matt. I'll stop by Sam's Club on my next day off to look around. I remember that they had some nice lookin' smith machines, not that I'm in the market for one. :D That'll be good if they have those DB's that you can set the weight by turning the knob with. I'd like to get that type of DB for 10-50 lbs worth. The heavy DB's I'll stick to the single metal ones.
All "hardcore members" take note: I took today's ME SQUAT/DEADLIFT off to recouperate from this pretty bad cold. I probably wouldn't have been able to breathe very well between squats anyways. I feel much better having got an extra 2 hours sleep in. Tonight I'll continue eating and pounding gatorade/water just like last night. Makes a big difference IMO. I know it's come up a lot in different forums about working out sick and shit like that, but IMO it's a complete waste of time. If it's the difference between recovering faster so I can salvage the remainder of my workouts or bulldozing through a workout sick, I'll take the recovery... And no, I won't lose strength, I won't lose mass. Instead, I gained a solid day of rest, and this cocksucking cold is that much closer to being erraticated. Missing today's workout also got me thinking. I'm debating about changing up my days in the gym to maximize recovery between sessions. I'm starting to sling up a lot of weight now, so I'm wondering if an extra day between ME BENCH and ME SQUAT days would increase my strength more. Probably would.... Monday: Rest Tuesday: ME SQUAT/DEADLIFT Wednesday: Rest Thursday: DE/RE BENCH Friday: DE SQUAT/DEADLIFT Saturday: Rest Sunday: ME BENCH I usually prefer to keep my 2 on 1 off, 2 on 2 off rotation because I love lifting on Sunday and Monday as well as having Friday and Saturday off. This way I can afford a little more volume and intensity into my ME workouts which'll be good. Additionally, the day between ME days can recharge my "sanity battery", which should help keep motivation higher. Gotta go and think on this. :weights: |

I've been trying to remember the name of these adjustable dumbells they have at the York Barbell store I go to sometimes. I found them here: http://www.personaltrainingfitness.com/dumbells.html
They look weird but when I tried them in the store they actually feel pretty cool because of the balance. Plus they can go up to 130 lbs. And there's the bowflex ones (or Nautilis). They are called Select-Tech. They work by pins instead of knobs but I think they're worth checking out. Plus then you can tell me whether they are any good or not before I buy any! :biglaugh: Edit* I didn't really look at the price. They are not cheap, lol. But your set of solid dumbbells will not be cheap either... Here are some other: http://www.quickdumbells.com/store/c...home.php?cat=1 http://www.quickdumbells.com/store/c...s.php?pageid=5 (that's the faq on those) Another brand I've seen is called Versa-Bell. Maybe available at Wal-Mart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...e=cii_13736960 There's a whole buncha shit to be found of e-bay. I've never personally bought anything that way. |
Those dumbbells work really well, my brother inlaw had a pair. I think they were around $1000 (CND)

Definately food for thought. I tried holding a few of those kinds of DB's, but it has a wierd setup that you have to fit your hand into. My wrists are pretty wide, so it was slightly uncomfortable.
-> I think I'm going to start my new rotation next week. I was half tempted to go into the gym today to start up my ME workout with low box squats, but I know from experience that I wouldn't be hitting any PR's feeling the way I feel. I still feel like a used tampon. On the plus side, I went to bed at 0600 this morning from the night shift, woke up briefly at 1300 to see if I was going to the gym, then went back to sleep and just woke up now at 1630. So I guess I really needed that sleep. I still have a little shortness of breath, but hopefully when I dose myself tonight with some Nighttime Thera-Flu, I'll be out for the count until tomorrow feeling good enough to pick back up with my RE BENCH day. :) In other news, I've really spent a lot of time cleaning up my diet to facilitate some fat loss. Pretty easy plan IMO. My main concern obviously is strength. So non workout days I'm starting up some gpp work for 30 minutes, and staying away from carbs on those days. Just lean meat, protein shakes, and lots of veggies. I'm also taking 10 grams of fish oil per day as usual. Workout days obviously will have a lot of carbs. Protein every day will continue to be around 400 grams per day. |
