Ahh the perfect end to a perfect week............................ NOT!!

Hit a PR in squats for weight, got 3 good reps and a very ordinary 4th, the 4th rep is the only time Ive ever been kinda scared I might get hurt, not good.Bench was the same as last week, 2 reps only but thats not surprising considering monday was a disaster.Chins sucked balls too, I only got 3 reps. All up a shit day really.

Performance Day 2/11/07
Squat 1x3 103.5kg (PR)
Bench 1x2 82.5kg same as last week
Chin 1x3 BW+17.5kg (weight PR but missed 2 reps)

As of next week Im going to add reps to sets on stress day as Eric has described for Benches and squats.I know I will have to drop a bit of weight off the bar.Im hoping the volume increase is enough to get things going, my bench just aint movin really and squats are gettin heavy and I think sticking to the higher rep range with slightly less weight might allow me to get better quality reps with less chance of injury.Ya that squat scared me ok!

My thoughts on resetting the weights for Monday are as follows

My best 5x3 Bench 78.5kg and squat 5x3 98.5kg

Bench week1 5x4reps with 73.5kg
week2 5x5 73.5kg and then up the weight and work on 5x5 from there onwards.

Squat 5x4 with 93.5kg week1
Week 2 5x5 93.5kg
Week 3 add weight and work up from there

Eric, Jeff and anyone else, when you guys get the time does this look suitable?

Cheers HIThopper

damnit...that does suck. but hey:

1.) u got a PR on squats
2.) u didnt lose strength on bench inspite of such a shitty monday workout
3.) chins always suck balls so need to go there lol

dude a weight PR is a weight PR.

maybe u walked in with very high expectations. i try to drill this into my own head at times like these: progress comes in small- very small, packages.

My training's going very well at the moment thanks hopper!
Last workout I done 3x5 100k for the squat, and 152 1/2 k on the deadlift which were both PR's.
The bench's and rows are progressing nicely (although their not that impressive)
Also in the last month I have put on 8 pounds!

Cheers Jonson

Sentinel
Thanks for the encouragement bro, not stressing too much, its been a massive week stress and emotional wise.I do feel its time to work back up to 5's tho, Squats especially will get more quality reps in, not that my form is horrible but when going so heavy (for me!) you can easily let a couple shit reps in.Hoping to work up to my best 5x3s for 5x5 and hopefully beyond in the coming weeks.Does the starting poundages look ok to you? They are both going to be Volume PRs at those weights if I can get the reps in.

HIThopper,

regarding the poundages, ill let Eric and Jason deal with that. i am still learning and i dont want to add my opinion here because it really doesnt matter and to be honest i havent even looked at the starting poundages. Eric will be better than me at checking that. u know that.

umm..regarding this week...yes, i hear u...its been an emotionally draining week for me too. and very tiring. but thats nothing. do u wanna know how bad next week is going to be? i have 4 exams, 2 tests, 1 quiz and 2 papers due in the same freaking week!! how fucked up is that lol??? im so dead...

but, im going out tonight and ill study tomorrow and go on a splendid date (hopefully) with my gf in the evening

regarding squats: i know exactly what u feel. and i think ur plan is alright.

On the starting poundages as long as you re-establish forward progress on Monday in the end that is what matters. Either you will start back getting PR's or you won't. Loading the bar, adding volume, etc. means progress and progress is progress is progress.

If you don't regress on PR day then let that be ok for a bit and then see what you have to do to get them going.

Look at it this way. If you were to only do squats on Monday at whatever volume, set and rep scheme, and you continually loaded the bar for a significant period of time, at the end of that time you would be stronger no matter if you did completely different exercises for the rest of the week. I'm not saying that would necessarily work just that if it did work there wouldn't be much use in complicating it.

Hi guys

Great workout today (finally!) I dropped back the poundage a bit and added a rep to each set, boy was I hammerred after the workout.Squats felt great, I hit 20 damn near perfect reps, and bench too.I missed 2 reps on chins, the last 2 sets 1 rep each, Ill hold the weight over again next week, if I miss again Im gonna reduce mondays sets slightly.

Stress Day 5/11/07
Squats 5x4reps 93.5kg
Bench 5x4reps 73.5kg
Chin 3x5,4,4 BW+10kg

Man next week is gonna be hard to get 5x5 with these weights, but thats what its all about I suppose.
