Yes from what I've seen of sumo's you need to have your toes pretty much at the weights. Which can be scary when you're putting the weight back down... Also as I understand it, powerlifters use it to kind of use the tension in their muscles/ligaments as a spring to lift more. They like "wind-up" by pulling themsevles down towards the bar and pop it up. I dunno, maybe I explained that really bad. I tried sumos before but I don't think I'm flexible enough in the hips.

Cool E I kinda felt like they werent quite right, from memory of videos watched I thought my chest needed to be higher.

IW the advantage of board pressing is yeah that you can use a bit more weight but also you can train your sticking point hard. The theory is the speed work should get the bar off the chest and the higher up you fail is where your sticking point is.So mine is 2-3 " off the chest so working with 2 boards lets me hit that area hard, especially with a pause on the board. Also the reduced ROM can help lessen any shoulder rotation and save some work for the shoulder cos they cop a hammering from squatting and all pressing exercises.

Eric was right everything. I just saw that vid, which looked like a wider than conventional (conventional) deadlift lol. The reason why (the only reason) you should be doing sumo deads every so often is to strengthen your wide parallel squat. When you put your feet out wide enough (very wide), it's going to look almost identical to your squat in the hole. That means getting lower, sitting back, w/ the body more erect than you were.

Additionally, if you're going to make a habit out of sumo's, I'd really recommend buying a cheap pair of Inzer power briefs to save those hips! I have a cheap $20 pair and they're awesome to keep your hips happy for both sumo's and speed squats.

Did you buy those briefs from inzer site? Gonna go there now and look .

I do get kinda sore hips with the real wide speed squats, so much so that I tend to avoid the ultra wide stuff.

Thanks for the help man

Yeah, I just got the cheap groove briefs because I just wanted some relief lol. They don't really increase my lifts much at all, but it does make doing the sumo's and box squats in particular feel a hell of a lot better. That's about all I use them for. Word of caution though. Get a size larger than what you need because they're fucking tight as hell!

Couldn't agree more with 0311. The thing is, if you are used to doing conventionals, and the first time you do sumos it feels "good" you prob aren't doing one

DE Squat Day

So today I lifted with a mate for the first time in years,I always lift alone. The plan was to box squat and concentrate on LOWER body, but my friend just wanted to hit bis and shoulders so I let him go I found it hard to get into the workout too, I must say whilst he is a great friend I much prefer to workout alone and really concentrate on the workout.Anywho speed was pretty good at 55% so I think I'm improving.I wanted to do bulgarians or possibly lunges next but the right hand side groin wasnt loving it so I did some speed pulls and then pullthrus and abs.I should be ready for more 1 legged stuff soon tho.

DE Squat day 27/6/08
Box squat 10x2 70kg
Deadlift 6x1 80kg
Pullthru 4x10 90kg
Reverse crunches 4x12

I know the feeling. I haven't had a good workout partner since College. It would be nice to find someone who is on the same page as I. My brother would be great , but we live about 3500km away from each other

DE Bench Day

Damn my shoulder is a little tweaked, pretty sore today too.I did my bench work and it didnt feel too bad but Im paying for it now.I managed to get thru 8x3 at 60% with good speed tho so thats a plus.I did all my sets with normal grip too cos on wed I think I was having major form issues with bar path so I was relieved today to at least bench well.I did press next and hit 3x3 with last weeks VERY hard 2x3 and I did a back off set too for 8reps.I finished the workout with JM Presses and Dumbell Rows.Felt good after but looking forward to this weeks deload/lower volume week!! I feel a bit beat up.

DE Bench Day 28/6/08
Bench 8x3 61kg
Press 3x3 47.5kg 1x8 30kg
JM Press 2x8 55kg 2x7 55kg
Dumbell Row 4x7 35kg
