yeah i have thought about it, but if i do something i dont want to go in half assed you know. fo ra minute i was training for it when i was like around 19 but then i had to work to much. back then i was also in running shape so i think that helped alot also.

im 25 so i think i still have some time to do it if i wanted. i think i am cool with my bench and MP power because like i said before i really dont train or eat enough to see to many gains so if i did everything right i know i can get 5 to 6 with the bench and 4 and up with the MP. but my deads are just so ass right now. my squats are ok. they are sort of right in line with my bench which i think is a problem but i know it can be worked on. if i get everything together and can get my deads and cleans straight i would definatly think about it.

and i feel you on not know where your max is. that is my first time ever doing it. i always jus testimate my max from my workouts. always felt like going for a max was a waste of a day of workout.

I think if you trained for it you would do very well in powerlifting. I know you said your deads are not where you want them, but you can definitely bring them up.

I feel the same with you regarding going for a 1-rep max being a waste of a workout. I love going heavy, but stay with the triples or doubles (on a bad day). :)

thanks widdoes. i think i may actually try it. i was thinking about finding a bench competition somewhere to get my feet wet. i wouldnt try it until i get over 5 but i know that wouldnt take long

MONSTAFACE 04-17-2008 04:27 PM

aight. today was another bullshit day. i wanted to just get some squats in but of course there was everybody and their mom doing dumb shit in side the racks so i decided just to work on my clean and pushes form. i did it with 225 and it was the same thing as yesterday on the vid. still looked mechanical and not fluid just like kane said. so i just said fuck it and was just riding out with 145. i did 3 sets of ten and they felt really really fluint. so i think what i will do is start with lower weight and just work up so i can get the right form and not just do it heavy just to do it.

while i did them i tried a souple of cleans into squats and of course i looked silly as hell. as i squatted up i fellt myslef falling forward and coming up on my toes all crazy. i think i can get it down but ill have to start with the bar and thats it.

when i seen everyone get off the rack i decided to mess with some Push presses. i wanted to see how many i could kick out at 315. i felt like i was good and warm after i did 5 clean and press with 225 and the 3 sets of 10 at 145. i was able to get 315 three times. sorry i didnt get it on the vid but i left the cam home an dforgot to charge it. hopefully everyone believes me since they seen me do it once yetserday. i used my legs for a little help on all three. i will work towards doing it strict.

afterwards i did some squats and that was that. just in case anybody reads this and didnt read the prior posts. i posted some vids finally yesterday. not a whole bunch of stuff cause the camera died on me. so thats what i am refeerring to

MONSTAFACE 04-18-2008 05:34 AM

i been thinkin about what i should do ti get my powercleans more fluint looking. i think i am gonna add those in every workout. i think i will do that because the weight that i look fluint doing is 145 and it doesnt feel heavy. i think i will od them everyday until the weight starts getting heavy and then i will break it up more. i may try to work on powercleaning into the squat a lot more also. at first i was kinf of scared to do it but it actually didnt feel bad when i tried it. just didnt feel right per say. so 1 or 2 of those days i will work on that and at times i may even just take the weight and get into the sqaut position and just hold it so i can get that whole flexibilty thing down. so ill post vids of my progressions on stuff. it will come together slowely but surely. and maybe next week instead of a push press im gonna see if i can do some full jerks with that 315. i will wear some knee wraps when i do it though

Good luck big man :)

Man you are a Monsta... :).
I just saw your clean vid and read up on some of the advice. Here is what I did to get my form down for cleans. Pick a light weight, 135 or so and do up right rows do about 5 and really work on power and every once on a while hold the top position. Then do 5 High Pulls, really work on keeping your elbows flared out and not like you are doing a reverse curl. Also watch your back, try not curl it.
Hanging cleans are after that, this is the best way to make sure you are "cleaning" the weight and not reverse curling it.
At the end you go for full power cleans.

Once you take apart the exercise like this you get to see where your weak positions are. Hope this helps. Keep it up man.

I'm late to all the vids and stuff, Monsta, sorry but these guys have it covered so all I can say is, damn, if you really focus on max strength it will be something amazing. Shit you are strong.

thanks widdoes. an ddont worry i wont do that without warming up again. it was just me thinkin to much. thinking since i didnt really eat during the course of the day i didnt knwo how much fuel i would have in the tank. thanks though. ill make sure i warm up
This is the only thing I want to touch on more. The others stressed warming up so I'm not preaching more on that. But from this and the other comment I feel like you think that a warmup may take something out of you. It is REALLY the opposite. A proper warmup and acclimation should make you perform BETTER. You just have to figure out the best way for you. So if you have felt in the past that a warmup had depleted you in some way it's not warming up you just have to do it properly.

And someone with your strength level can actually get a lot of "potentation" from lifting the heavy weights.
