Thanks man. I kind of pulled it out of my ass. I haven't been training lower body hard because of that hamstring injury a while back. I have only squatted +300 or deadlifted +300 a total of maybe...5 or 6 days max since the injury.

Ross86 12-27-2008 11:13 AM

Military press - 135X5, 155X1
Push press - 175X1, 175X1, 185X1, 195X0
Arnolds - 3X5 45, 65, 70
Face pulls
Dip shrugs

195 was heavy. I have a mental barrier when I get above a certain weight and I'm OH pressing. My body tells me to not lift it when I dip down for leg drive and my core gets loose.

Have you ever push pressed 195 before?

Give me more details of how you went about those singles? What kind of rest periods in general? What were your goals to begin with?

I looked back through the journal a bit and I didn't see anything that I would consider preperation for hitting 195 on the push press. I could be missing something but it seems like the lifts before were good. Likely you could have rested and maybe hit something in the 170 up range again but I'm not sure I get what your are sweating.

I responded in more detail already at GUS.

I haven't ever pressed 195 before. 185 was actually a PR today. Rest time was a...long 3 minutes between sets, so that wasn't an issue. It's even more of an issue when I'm OH pressing with the log.

I wonder if it has to do with the bar position in front of me. If I'm leaning forward a little when I go down to get my leg drive, that would definitely throw me off. I'll play with bar position the next time I go to the gym just to see what the deal is.

I just responded to your response on GUS. Thanks for the long response. This response got me thinking a lot about things also. The log press thing kind of hints at a problem with bar position. OH squats could help me a lot with that. My hip awareness is getting better, but I don't feel like I have the best "bar awareness".

oh squats own. i'm super serial.

Three minutes is not even close to being in the same ballpark to "not a problem". You want to lift heavy weigths or you won't to assume you know everything? Look up recovery, energy systems, cns recovery, etc..

You've never lifted 195 pounds...you still haven't. There is not too much to analyse here except learing proper ways to do cns intensive training and stop basing workouts on expectations.

I probably would have rested up to 6 minutes to try a single again like that.

Ross86 12-27-2008 09:10 PM

I don't care that I didn't lift 195lbs. It would have been nice, but it didn't happen. The rest time wasn't an issue. The higher the intensity, the longer the rest time was between sets. The only thing I wanted to analyze is why I kept messing up on the attempts. It doesn't have anything to do with cns intensive training, rest periods, or expectations.

I give up dude. As usual you ask question but then already know exactly what you believe.

I've tried to help you many times but you are way too sure of what you want to think. Good luck.

Thanks. Save yourself the trouble from now on.
