kind of strange that a gym would have some powerlifting equipment, yet refuses to let people do powerlifting lifts... it's like dangling candy in front of a small child and saying not to eat it.

Yep. But in retrospect, I'm glad they make gyms like that...so all of the fucking pussies can congregate there and stay the hell out of the real gyms. :)

Monsta, it was very tempting. He knew I was pissed, so he kind of stayed near me until I left. My sister had just gotten off work there and had just introduced me to the guy that kicked me out maybe 10 minutes before this happened. I didn't want to embarrass her or cause a big scene in front of her. I wouldn't have cared if it was any day other than my pull day because I could have used the break, but that wasn't the case.

wow. that is crazy man. i have no words for that. that kind of shit just makes me mad

I would have just told him you were toning up your buns. He would have understood and walked away :)

Seriously though, no warning, just the boot? Bad for business, even in an industry that works hard to sabotage clients! I suppose most of those places view it as a liability issue. I mean, god forbid anyone get hurt lifting.

Or maybe the issue here is because you were being too alpha male? At any time did you:
a) remove your shirt
b) challenge someone to touch "your guns."
c) scream loudly "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck Yoooouuuuuu Weiiiiight!" then throw it down and holla "Hellz yeah I own dis biatch!"
d) stare creepily at women on the cardio equipment while holding your crotch and singing Eminem songs?

If so... :biglaugh:

Only the first part of option d). :) He told me I was going to break the concrete under the rubber flooring...I never even got to my first working set. I wanted to just pull the 225 up to neck level and then drop it right in front of him. I've never seen so many people doing curls in a gym at one time. It was nuts...just a bunch of jackasses. The three days that I went in there, people asked me to spot them when they were doing curls three times. One tall guy that was slamming the weights around and trying to act like a badass bumped into me twice...I think it was on purpose. I hate people like that.

Squats - 3X5 275
Speed deadlifts - 2X8 225, 2X3 225
Leg curls - 120 X 9, 5, 2

I combined pull & leg days. 275 felt a little heavy on squats. My hips were killing me, so I didn't do leg press. On a good note, I have found my groove/plane with squats. I like speed deadlifts. I felt very strong/fast.

is your hip hurting from working out or did you injure it?

Hey, the only benefit to going to a comercial gym is the eye candy. Might as well get an eye full!

I can tell you that if the concrete slab was poured correctly, that you probably wouldn't do much damage with a barbell. Though it wouldn't be the worst thing for them to get some rubber mats. I know my old gym had a platform area (you know, because you need three layers of half inch plywood and a layer of half inch rubber for curls) and some little chunks of rubber mat for work outside of the platform. Not to mention the entire DB area was rubberized. In the end it would be the weights I would be more worried about than the floor. dropping a bar on concrete could potentially bend the bar, or crack a crappy iron plate. Still, the floor should be fine. I drop my 260lb concrete atlas stone on a 1/2" rubber mat and onto a crappy old brick and mortar floor (big bricks, not little... my garage is ancient) and other than cracking the mortar a bit, there is no real damage. We are talking a full drop from 49"... way higher than you would drop a DL, and a single point of impact. All things being equal, I think Mr. Gym guy was just being a prick. Maybe your sis shot him down on his last attempt at her goodies? :)

MONSTAFACE 07-28-2008 11:31 AM

^^^^ it had to be something because thats just ridicilous. especially when you have gyms letting dude pick weight up above their head and just dropping it on damn near staright floor. it pisses me off.

Ross86 07-28-2008 11:37 AM

Haha that's hilarious, Andrew.

Monsta, I have some problems with hip mobility, specifically flexion. That's why my depth has been so problematic when squatting, I think. I have been doing a lot of stretching. I am going to start using a foam roller, as detailed in Maximum Strength. My hips hurt every leg day...my flexibility is definitely getting better and it's becoming less of an issue. During my last three workouts, I have had acceptable depth. Before I wasn't going near where I needed to be. I just need to practice now. I feel awkward at the bottom. I let the weight shit on me last week when I was trying to complete the last rep of my last set. I got forward and spilled it onto the safety bars. Doing much better now though. And I've been stretching my ankles a lot also which is helping.
