Actually that is pretty much what I envisioned happening. I would have probably done the same thing

The conversation went like this:
Why are you doing sumos?
I want to strengthen my hips.
You're built perfectly for them & you want a big DL, so pull sumo style more often.
Ok. (Pulled my first working set)
Why are you doing speed sumo DL's?
I'm not.
Then increase the weight.
Okay, but I don't want to hurt my hips since I haven't done these in forever.
How do your hips feel right now?
They feel great & they have for more than a month.
Then increase the weight again.
Derek (the powerlifter that I have mentioned before (Ok, so on a side note, he missed his pro card by 5lbs at his last meet. If he hadn't tried to jump 85lbs twice on his 2nd & 3rd DL attempts, then he would have gotten it.)) was very surprised that I couldn't pull 385. Because of the speed that I pulled 355, straight off the floor without a pause, I should have been able to do 385 without much of a problem. So that aggravates me....it's something to work towards.
