Thursday: Upper 2

Low Incline Smythe: 15 RP (rest paused) 150lbs
Shallow Decline DB Press: 2 x 8-10 120lbs
Standing Military Press: 3 x 5-8 100lbs
Pulldowns(2x15,12 wide),(1x12 medium) 130lbs, 120lbs
Reverse Pulldown 1-12 120lbs
Rev. P-downs: 2 x 10-12 90lbs

In the past my main emphasis while training has been a mind-muscle connection, strength always came secondary to that. However for the last 3 months I have prioritized strength. I still ensure proper form while executing exercises and maintain a 3-0-2 tempo on most compound movements.

I was not 100% focused mentally however; there was a significant strength increase in every single exercise by approximately 10lbs. I am tempted to direct my strength increase to Anagen, however it is still way to soon and most likely a placebo effect.

Wednesday was my off day and since I last measured my weight on Tuesday, I have gained 2lbs while maintaining my exact same caloric intake. Like I mentioned earlier I am more accustomed to seeing a .5lb increase/week.

So far so good, tomorrow is a brutal leg training day and hopefully I wont be as distracted.

You know, this reminds me of hardgains Warrior post. I've noticed you've put a lot of emphasis on focusing on this or that. Also the comment of "mind-muscle connections". I've also noticed that many people talk about being distracted or unable to concentrate, etc...

Now, I can understand all this when it comes to learning things. Learning the proper form of an exercise and "getting it down". Also, some exercises, at least to me, are harder to maintain form on and require more attention. For instance, deadlifts. But in general, once your body has learned something, it's learned, and no thought process need be involved. In fact, it is this active thought process that is more likely to screw you up.

I really don't mean to insult anyone, but some people make lifting weights a whole lot more complicated than it is. I'm not sure exactly what you meant by mind-muscle connection, but if it is what I think it is, I would say that you can not change your body's biomechanics with a concious thought process. That's like focusing on your breathing to make sure air goes into your lungs. You make a certain movement, in a certain position, and certain muscles are called into play. Period. Even trying to get that "squeeze" at the end of the contraction shouldn't require some monumental mind-body connection. You just do it. Just like you pick up a gallon of milk.

All of this isn't meant as a criticizm of your methods. I am only trying to get accross that so many people, when they try to "concentrate" or "focus" are just creating a sort of sticking, or stopping. The more you think, the harder it is to do. When all your really doing is moving weights up and down. The other day I was changing a tire and the lug-nuts were stuck. In the absense of liquid wrench I had two choices. I could concentrate all my mental powers onto loosening the lug-nuts, or I could turn the lug-wrench harder....I chose the latter.

What I am getting at is that unless you have a real reason to concentrate on a particular thing, i.e. getting the form down, which can take time I know, the next time you find yourself not focused, don't fight it, just let your mind do what it wants and trust you body to do what it does. You'll probably find that, if enough effort is required, everything becomes channeled in to what you are doing anyway, whereas before you may have been preventing that by all the mental "striving".

You bring up very good points and I understand your perspective.

Each of us have our own vulnerabilities, mine is my emotions. I will not go to deep into this issue, but it is comparable to training with a minor injury. When focused, my only concern is lifting weights and lifting heavy and I will not accommodate any emotions. That way, I am able to give it my full effort.

If I find my self distracted, and allow my mind to wander, my motivation will also wander off.

IMO Mastering both mind and body well help strengthen my entire being.

Friday: Lower 2
Barbell Curls: 2 x 6-10
Standing Reverse Curls: 1 x 12
A2G Squats: 1 x 4-8, 1 x 20 (widow-maker) 240lbs
Rack Dead lifts: 3 x 5 270lbs
Ham. Curls: 2 x 10 200lbs
Leg Exten: 2 x 10 180lbs
Calves: 4 x 15-20
Abs Work: 5 x 10

Training:
I increased my weights on every single exercise by at least 20lbs. Strength is really starting to increase significantly in the past week.

Diet: Today I must admit my diet wasn’t spot on as I believe I was on a slight caloric deficit but will bring it back up indefinitely.

Opinions regarding Anagen:
Strength has gone up significantly, as you can tell. As far as body composition goes I can notice a slight increase in thickness throughout.

My dosage is 4 capsules/day with meals.

Hey, just offering my observations. Not preaching a sermon. I believe in taking what works and throwing out the rest....and it was offered in that spirit. Whatever works for you is A-Ok with me

Training
Great workout today, high energy throughout the brutal 50min workout.

Diet:
Top notch, very carb and protein rich. Perhaps slightly too high today.

Supplement Anagen
Over the weekend I noticed greater definition in my abs hence I gradually tapered up my calories. Today there was defiantly a small increase in over all thickness including my trouble part (arms).

Weight:183 (Up three lbs in one week.) I generously attribute 1lb in fat gains.

Numbers are looking good slayer. Keep up the good work.

I do want to clear one thing up about "mind muscle connection" and my warrior post though. I think through reading eric's post that he may be confused. My motivational technique has nothing to do with the "mind muscle connection". It is a way of cultivating powerful emotions to fuel an inner fire, that for one reason or another just isnt putting out the BTU's it should (BTW, worst analogy ever )

For me, when i use that technique, there is little "focus". there is more of a blinding rage to break shit, and smash crazy wieghts.

No, Hardgain. Sorry. I only mentioned your post because like I said it reminded me of it (in a general way). If anything I realized that it wasn't about focus per se at all, so that it fit with what I was getting at which is why I mentioned it - I didn't mean to imply that your were talking about a mind-muscle connection. My bad! I should have left you out of it!

What I was talking about, btw, was the concept of Wu-Hsin -- which I didn't explain very well at all.

Sorry for the thread hyjack, Slayer.
