Good shit dave, I wont even try to critique, I know you and your crew have prolly been over all your films a hundred times. Although since you mentioned wrestling, i will say your sprawl could use a little work ... but this was a while ago, i'm sure your correcting those things already.

nice armbar to end it homie, lookin good man.

.
yeah I'm working on that. When I realized I wasn't going to get the sprawl I just tried to pull guard so I could control him. I didn't realize he was going to get the points for that.

Default Update

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with the journal as much, a lot has been going on.

My weight training has slowed down because of work but recently I hired one of the strength and conditioning coaches from my school to train me in kettlebell and wrestling. I had my first session on Saturday and it was intense. 30 minutes of drilling wrestling takedowns and 30 minutes of KettleBell (KB) work.

I have been training hardcore lately in my Muay Thai and BJJ and it has been paying off. I just recently had an in-house tournament with about 6-8 other schools that are good friends of ours on Sunday and I placed 1st in GI in my weight division AND in open weight and I placed 2nd in my No Gi weight division. I was able to armbar one guy and kimuraed two others. My lost was to a guy that was good and I just made a mistake in a double leg take down that I learned on Saturday and left my neck out a little too much and he got me in a choke but not with out taking a shot to the nuts. I felt bad but he won so I didn't feel that that bad. On a small set back note, I have severe mat burn on the tops of my toes, I rubbed off the first layer of skin, and it is very hard for me to walk with out wincing a little. Tried training yesterday but that was almost impossible without being in pain. I have a tournament this upcoming weekend in Pittsburg but if my feet don't heal I don't know if I can compete. I have to view the rules and see if they allow wrestling shoes. I might be able to do something with those but it still hurts like a B!tch. After that I'm taking a week off and going to Vegas so that will be fun. After that it's back to 5x5 training to get my strength up and my next competition will be July 14th in Richmond.

This is one of the videos from a competition I did awhile ago. In this tournament I went from 212lbs to 199lbs in 4 days to compete in the 200lbs beginner division. I didn't win this competition because my game plan was flawed, I was too worried about submission and not paying attention to points. As you can see in the vid I keep attacking his arms and every other time he bear hugs me and pushes me down. I need to work on my wresting as you can see in the beginning. So recently I hired one of the trainers in my MMA school for private wrestling lessons, so I'm working on that.

The guy you hear close up is my friend. The other guy you keep hearing, "attack that arm" is a black belt at my school.

I'll try and upload the competition I was recently in and won.

enjoy.

Talking I'm going to be training in Randy Couture's gym!!!

I'm going to Vegas Wednesday and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to workout for a while or train in anything. Then IT just hit me, Randy Couture has a gym in Vegas.

I called up the place and it's only $25 for the entire day. So I'm bringing my gloves, raps and Gi and I'm going to spend a couple hours there. I'm sooo F'ing excited about this. They have a lot of fighters from UFC that teach there and one of the guys from The Ultimate Fighter, Gray Maynard. I'll try and take a bunch of pics.

As for my working out I'm healed up from my last grappling tournament so I'll be doing some kettlebell today.

Well, I'm back from Vegas and I got to tell you, the Randy Couture's Gym is amazing. As I'm filling out information about me for the classes I hear in the background, "Yeah, this is Randy Couture..."
I was just shocked and I have to tell you, in person, that man is big. I mean he looks big on TV but in person that man is a lot bigger. I also ran into Forest Griffin and Gray Maynard from The Ultimate Fighter. It was awesome.

Mike Pile taught the MMA class and Tyson Griffin taught the Muay Thai class. The information was amazing and I got to do a little MMA sparring and I'm more than hooked. I realized I relied more on my BJJ than my striking which is interesting because I come from a traditional standup background and I thought I would gravitate more towards standing up. Well I learned a lot about myself that night I just kept taking my partners down and submitting them. On one note, there was one guy that had to be a wrestler and he would reverse just about every takedown I tried. I did take a couple of pics but nothing big, I didn't want to look like too much of a tool. Well back to the grind stone. I'll be starting DF 5x5 for a 2 weeks with 1 week of DF 3x3 then off to SE and kettlebell.

Forest was looking big and mean when training with their boxing coach. He looked pretty focused so I didn't get a chance to talk to him.
