Well you're sitting down with a bunch of weight on your shoulders. Even though you are controlling the decent and not plopping onto the box it is bound to take a toll on the lower back. It's not really something your back was meant to do. Like I said at the beginning I wouldn't do box the entire time. If I were you I'd switch up to reg squats after a while and start reaping some of the benefits of all that box squatting.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

Yeah, I'm not saying right now. But don't ignore it if your back gets more rather than less sore, you know? Don't keep going just because you can if you find that you are getting a constant tightness in the lower back or an ache that doesn't go away. The paraspinal muslces will start going hypertonic and then the entire lower back will follow and if you go too long you could just be setting yourself up for an injury when you switch and certainly if you don't. Also, stretch the lower back.

hell, one more thing: louie simmons wrote that when doing box squat you should really arch your lower back and put your chest high. I think all this arch is actually putting more stress on my lower back. I'm not saying "don't arch at all", I just think right now that I'm arching my back and taking out my glutes too much.

I'll think about it, read his article again, watch some videos of others @ youtube, and tell you if I think it's related.

Well you should certainly set a good tight arch and set your chest high. But exagerate it a lot? I agree, I don't like to do that.

emm, I think tomorrow I might switch light box squats (2X5@80%) with front squat (lighter weight of course).

maybe on thursday I'll skip squat altogether.

Sure skip it if you want to. Or just do something lighter rather than a true PR attempt. For instance, the same weight from the volume workout but only a couple sets. the danger in skipping altogether is you're going 4 days without squatting at all. It depends on the individual but that could mess you up next volume workout.

And the squat substitution is a good idea. Also, you know, you could try doing reg squats for PR day. It would make a whole lot of sense.

What you would want to do is get back into the squatting groove by just doing a few moderate sets of reg squat for a couple of you PR days. Then estimate what you want to go for but stick with the 1x5 at first for the PR's.

Everything doesn't always have to be absolutes. There many times is a very good comprimise. In this case a comprimise between switching to reg squats or just switching some days. And a compromise between skipping a squat altogether or doing something just to keep in the groove.
