I had issues with my grip slipping also, but that was because of sweaty palms, and not using an opposite grip on each side of the bar. I solved my sweaty grip problem by buying some weight lifter...

it is the first 2-3" that is the hardest part of a squat for me as well, and where i usually fail my lifts when i get fatigued enough.

Overtraining is a result of not getting enough restitution between your training sessions, so if you feel on top of the world, and brimming with energy when you enter the gym, you're not overtrained....
