When I was in Kung Fu, what we did was to position our hands differently after every ten pushups:

10-on our outside wrists
10-knuckles...

It's ok for endurance, but for strength you need to choose weightlifting. If I were you I'd just stick to weightlifting at a higher rep range. You'll reep more benefits than pushups. For strength...
