but i don't do anything to support it. and then i go try it. and i can't do it.

what is there to be disappointed about :)

you could do a few sets of heavy doubles or...

you could do a few sets of heavy doubles or triples...and then do some back off sets just to get some reps in....that worked for me. could do that and a speed day.
