I'm down with the newbie thing. You know I gave anuj a hard time just for the hell of it but I have to go on the record as saying this not being able to edit after 3 hours sucks.

I go through a lot of trouble on many of my posts. And I post a lot. I've always been pretty conciensious about labeling any addtions to my posts as such. But now I'm leaving a pile of typos and misspellings all over the place and that just hurts me down deep inside I don't really think it's fair for a privilege to be removed because some people go back and take out posts.

You take somebody who goes through the trouble of writing an article for the benefit of everyone such as Anuj and his bench press article...shouldn't that person be able to go back and refine that after the fact? Add stuff. Fix typos. It's only fair. My myself I'm not going around posting all one liners.

Man I don't want to sound whiny but I want the edit fuction reinstalled. At least for middleweights

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

The editing limitation has been removed for now.

If we experience the same problems with people going back and erasing/clearing out comments we will have to come up with a better solution.

I brought this up in the past because of the newbies here erasing their original posts after they get the information. I'd suggest possibly taking away the EDIT for anyone new to the site from 0-250 posts.. This way we weed out the "drive-by" from someone new who posts a question, then deletes it after a few responses. It's happened on more than one occation which was why I recommended the safeguard.

I personally still agree that we need this, my only concern is that I still think new people deserve the right to edit their posts within a certain time frame. Unfortunately there is no easy way I can limit how long a SPECIFIC usergroup has to edit their posts. Really the only thing I can do is either allow or prevent the edit feature for the usergroups.

One possible solution is if we agree on a post count that once they hit, they will be able to edit their posts. That way I can make another usergroup that has a little more permission than brand new members but this wouldn't change the current ranks (middle, light, etc). New members would have to hit this small post count before they can edit posts...maybe in the range of 50 - 100 posts.

Feel free to let me know if this would work for you guys.

I think that would work Sleazy. It just like 0311 is saying and would eliminate the drive-bys. You could never be sure of a number but I think that once someone has 100 to 250 posts they're not likely to be deleting posts.

And thanks a lot for considering this. I really don't like to complain about anything. Especially considering all the great things you do.

No problem commenting on this Eric, the last time I implemented this it was a quick "patch" to solve the problem. Fixing crap like this is what keeps this place clean.

If anyone else has feedback on this let me know as I want to see what everyone thinks before I implement it.
