This could be easily done, but how would you suggest classifying members? The easiest way I can think of is through post counts.

Does anyone else want to see this or have a better method of classification beyond a members post count?

This could be useful as a way to designate who would be considered for future product testing and contests.

I think its cool have ranks based on posts at the very least get a little more posting out of it, even though theres quite a bit now anyway.

Could be post count or status in the community. It would be your call sleazy. Also if you had a rep from another site they could be designated as such. Also you might want a member of the month. Designation for female members and have you set anything up for board donations. You could have donating member designations.

I don't know what would be the purpose of any of it except to set up some kind of artificial heirarchy on the board based on largely meaningless post counts or perhaps to stoke the egos of certain members if they feel they should be afforded more "status" than others.

To me this is one step away from REPS.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

It's amazingly beneficial to a forum as it gives members incentive to participate and improve/learn. I do understand your point, which is why any designations would be administrator decisions as to uphold the integrity of said designation.
I did notice Eric that under your name you have veteran status. One would assume, as a newbie coming on board you would be one to look to for valuable information.

Anyway, just offering any suggestions which may benefit this forum.

I know some forums have where a member has posted the most. Which could also be an indication as to there specialties. But this would also need admin. supervision and could also develop ego.

I'm not attacking you. I'm just stating my opinion. The only reason it says Veteran under my name is because I have a certain number of posts. I didn't write it. Perhaps I should change it. It is in no way indicative of the quality of my advice. I could have posted hundreds of one liners or irrelavent comments in theory. I can see why someone would think it means they should look to me for valuable advice but it doesn't guarantee anything.

Anyway, I should pay more attention to such things. I'll change it.

The REPS system also supposedly gives members an incentive to participate learn but it creates nothing more than a popularity contest. So like both you, X and Dave are saying this would need to be monitored.

Go to ironmass.com. They have all those perks over there and it seems to work extremely well. Name colors, product tester preference, ect..Contact the mod and ask what they do because it doesn't seem like there's any problems.
