I got the idea from another forum, but I think it's a good one. For all of our guests that frequent this site (we always have about ten), there should be a pop-up shown that says to register here. The pop up lasts for 20 or so seconds, but at least when people see it they'll say "what the hell". What do ya'll think

20 sec may be too long. how 'bout a window that asks to register (or "become a member") "to take advantage the benefits of being a member" now or later. When the 'now' button is pushed he (or she) can register. When the 'later' button is pressed the window goes away.

I gonna say no and here's why. Every time I come here there is always ten or so guests. Now, after about an hour, I see no new names pop up which tells me they aren't taking the time to register. So, putting that there for 20 seconds pretty much bugs them to either sign up and read the forum or come beck when you have more time to sign up. Anabolic minds has a assload of members and they incorperate this idea. Other forums won't let you search unless you sign up. Either way, I signed up with others for one or both of those reasons. Giving the people a choice like you said I don't think will be effective. They already have a choice when they come on anyway. It already says in big blue letters, "REGISTER". IMO

But what do members who "sign up" and don't participate do for the site. There could be a million members here, but if only us 10 are participating, then it's just the same site.

There have been other sites of various interests that I have "joined" just to post one message, or even just to see some "members only" content, never to return again.

I don't think badgering anyone into signing up will increase traffic, or, more importantly, quality posts.

i think we need to spread the word across other boards. Perhaps by inserting links to our threads in similar ones on other sites.

0311, I know I have linked some of your missives on wannabebig.com (one or two, I believe).
