Default BCAA's

Quick question guys (since I can't seem to find the answer). I'm using Pro-Lab Advanced whey and I noticed it has BCAA's mixed in, so I'm not taking them seperately anymore. I'm taking in about 4-5 shakes per day (2 scoops) (including pre and post), so here's my question. Are there any side-effects (good, bad, or otherwise) to taking a large amount of BCAA's? and Is there a limit to how many you can/should ingest in a day (in grams)?

Here's the link for the prolab product info http://www.prolab.com/ecommerce/cont...oduct_id=10127

??? I don't see anywhere where it has extra BCAA's mixed in. Whey is naturally very high in BCAA's so that's pretty much a standard claim in any decent whey product. You're not gonna overdose of BCAA's just from the 4 or 5 scoops of whey a day and you could take in a whole lot more than that as long as it's in the proper 2:1:1 ratio.

Damn, Kane. I'm sorry I realize I didn't answer your question in terms of "good" side effects. There is a BCAA/Cit. Malate overview posted in the nutrition articles section that should help. If you can't find it I'll link it.

I compared it to a couple other products I've used and it seemed to be higher in BCAA's...I can't get the actually breakdown of the BCAA's from the internet, but I will post the numbers that are printed on the bottle. I'm typically taking in 8-10 scoops (as opposed to 4 or 5). What is the ratio you mentioned? Is it the ratio of L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine? (looks like I have alot of reading to do for BCAA's )

Oh it definitely could be higher (or lower) than some products depending on the mixture and relative proportions of concentrate, isolate, peptides, things like that. Sorry I misread 4 to 5 shakes to mean 4 to 5 scoops.

Yes that is the ratio I'm speaking of. And I posted again as your were replying I think. Linked you to an article.

You're welcome of course. I can't find any mention of side-effects of BCAA's at any dose (no reported side effects). Most likely any extra will just be oxidized, used to make other aminos, stored as fat...

I have read of something to do with trytophan pathways is the brain(??)
I'm not sure if that had to do with supplementing leucine alone, for which there are theoretical dangers, or what. I DON't think it's a realistic concern but if I find it again I'll post.

I also couldn't find any mention of side effects or dangers in the article...I will keep my research ongoing of course and learn as much as possible.

There is a blurb in the article mentioning that BCAA's and tryptophan compete for the same pathways. But from what I've read so far, I don't see any major concerns. The info would be appreciated if you can find it

That's probably where I read it before. No, definitely doesn't sound like something to worry about.

There is no danger in superdosing BCAA's. I've gone as high as 50g a day, and I saw no adverse effects Kane.

Nothing to worry about bro
