creatine just puts water in the muscle. Muscle is muscle.

Dr. X, if a training candidate had their diet in order, and training program and was looking to gain some weight would you reccomend creatine?

Creatine does not build muscle, but it certainly does more than just cause water retention. The only things that will build muscle are proper training, recovery, and diet- that new muscle needs food to grow. As for creatine, the quick and dirty is that it recycles ATP, which allows for more energy. Personally I would recommend it if, 1) you are over 18 (there are at least a few studies showing the harsh effects of creatine on underdeveloped kidneys), 2) your training and diet are spot on perfect, and 3) you have double checked #2. -EK

You could possible add up to 10lbs with creatine but it's water. Stop creatine and the weight will drop. however since it's in the muscle and not on the muscle you will not look bloated. Also creatine is a must for muscle growth so if you take it for any reason take it for that.

Thanks for the advice.

I think when I start the 5/3/1 program I'm planning ("boring but big" format) I may invest in some creatine.

I have been on the same diet for 6 months or so and I have managed to cut down, bulk up a little bit and maintain on it (adjusting the calories of course) as I desired. So, I think I have my diet tuned in pretty well. I was just wondering if the creatine would add a little edge for the muscle gains.

Thanks again,

IW
