Default facts or fiction

This is a strange question that i'm interested in seeing who may believe its true, who believes its false and the whys. Here goes;
Back in the late 70s when I was still fighting full contact martial arts there was a method for treating bad bruises. My trainer had an oriental Balm that he would rub over, say a totally black and blue area on the shin (example) from an intense contact blow. When he allowed it to dry a bit he would then massage in DMSO. The next day the bruise was gone. I tried it without the DMSO and it was still bruised the next day. At the time you were able to go to the drug store and order it until it got banned. The story of the banning was that DMSO was a super transporter and applied over any other topical linament would send it deep into the muscle and mix into the bloodstream, hence poisoning. A lot of research was done on DMSO (which can still be gotten from a veternarian because it is used for horse linament) and it was deemed factual as a product that penetrates deep thru the skin and takes anything mixed with it along for the ride. Topical ointments aren't mean't to enter the blood stream in large quantity's and this is why it was banned. I know the balm the orientals used was all natural and really pretty pretty much as useless as Ben Gay when used alone and a lot wasn't used. But there are abusers of everything and when the abuse began, hence the ban.
I was thinking of what if something orally was dilluted, mixed with water, applied and then DMSO was put on after what the effects would be? Say Creatine for example was mixed with just enough water to be able to be rubbed on then DMSO. Put on the shoulders and arms then an hour later go in for an intesive workout. It really wouldn't matter about the deep penetration because Creatine is taken orally and transported thru the bloodstream. Would you have a more direct way of getting the creatine to the muscle topically?
Anyway I finally got my hands on a jar of DMSO and plan on trying it but I thought i'd run it by you guys for some discussion.
Al
