Well there are different kinds of protein(ie:whey, casein) but I'm sure your wife can use it.

What's her goals? Usually whey is fine, just make sure that if she is using it throughout the day that it's with a meal vs. just drinking it between meals.

Thank You for all the Input.

She will be 40 this year and she is in great shape (5'2" 105 lbs.). She does a lot of treadmill, little weights and is about to join a spin class.

I know whey is animal (milk) protein and is great for men..just thought that maybe a soy (plant) protein would be better for her being estrogen based.

The Isopure call for 2 scoops per 12oz. Maybe I'll give her 1 scoop with each meal and see if it helps over time.

Again, Thanks for the knowledge. Great Site.

It's all about protein requirements. Isopure is just one way to get some of that protein. The 2 scoops per 12oz just has to do with consistency. You can use more or less water/milk to make it thinner or thicker. You could also easily have her increase her protein intake from food, if she will only be taking the Isopure at meals. I think she would have better results doing that.

Thanks Ross.

FWIW, I blended 4 scoops with 8oz of water and 16oz of 1% millk with 2 bananas.

My wife and stepson liked it. Pretty tasty.

Women and men don't need different kinds of proteins. A protein supp is a protein supp, no matter whether you're estrogen or testosterone based.

Wow. Wish it was that simple. For years I've heard good and bad about soy for men. Not to mention the many benefits soy has for women.

Thats why I asked about the whey for my wife. I was unsure if a lot of it would have adverse affects to her as soy does for men.

Here is one link stating soy reduces testosterone in men. I don't know for sure. There are many other sites that state the opposite.

Yep, soy will cause problems. If you consume 1000g a day. I read through one of the studies where men lactated and stuff. And they took an ABSURD amount of soy. It didn't prove anything. If you made me eat that much corn, I think I would lactate.

Another one of the studies included a guy coming off of a cycle of steroids. And the test group was comprised of 12 individuals, I think. Anyway, once his data was removed from the test, there were negligible changes in testosterone. Testosterone actually increased, but it wasn't deemed significant.

You don't have anything to worry about with soy IMO. I know a lot of guys that take it because of cholesterol or allergen issues. Sorry I didn't dig up links to those studies, but I'm feeling lazy. I haven't seen anything that was conclusive and relevant to the average person OR bodybuilder.

That's what you get for reading on T-Nation.
