Default L-Glutamine question.

Should i be taking this before or after a workout??

It says on the bottle to take it before, but i thought you use up the glutamine during the workout and you need to replenish it after.

Also should i be taking this on days when i dont lift????

I do both before and after, and sometimes during... and I also take it on non-workout days in the morning... I don't think it makes much of a difference.. at least I don't feel a difference.

Try 10 grams postworkout, then another 10 grams before bed. You'll need a lot of glutamine to reap any significant benefit.

Yeah. Post-workout is the optimum time if you have to choose one time to take it. But otherwise take as much as you can afford to, but separated into 5 to 10 gram doses.

I've heard of strengh coaches recommending up to 80 grams a day. I'm not suggesting this, but it illustrates the thinking in regards to glutamine.

Personally I do 10 grams PWO and 10 grams around dinner time (I workout in the early morning).

That would cost you an arm and a leg

Your not kidding. I guess people who are paying thousands for private training sessions with guys like Charles Poliquin can afford it.

The best source I found is from Primaforce. For 1 Kilo, it's $32.00...And IMO the best quality for the pricing.

Supplement Facts
Serving Size: 1 Scoop (4.5 g)
Servings Per Container: 222
Amount Per Serving
L-Glutamine 4.5 gâ€*

* Percent Daily Values are based on 2,000 calorie diet.
â€* Daily Value Not Established.

Suggested Use:
As a dietary supplement, mix 1 scoop (1 teaspoon) into 4 ounces of water or juice after training and 1 scoop prior to bed-time. (told you so )

I never disagreed with you.

But you can take more than the SUGGESTED dose. And if you're real poor and can only afford to take it once a day, then I still say post-workout is the one to choose. For twice a day after training and before bed-time, like you said. But you can take more. A lot of people add some extra to every protein shake.

In any case 10 grams at a time is almost twice the suggested dose anyway, so why are we harping on suggestions?

I get it cheaper than Primaforce. Why do you think Primaforce is the best source for the money, 311?

That's what I do. With plenty of water or whatever. It's just quicker and easier and you don't have to worry about it's stabibility in solution or the fact that it won't dissolve and starts to settle to the bottom.

In a PWO shake that's the best way if you have a shake with a liter or more of water. Same with your creatine. I only drink half the shake all at once and then I drink the rest of it slowly, so I spoon my glutamine and creatine into my mouth at the beginning. If I were to mix it in the shake it would be hanging around in solution too long and I would have to chug over a liter of liquid so I wouldn't have to worry about it breaking down.

But if I chugged the whole shake at once that would be counterproductive because I'm putting too much in my stomach at once so it will take more time for the protein and sugars to get into my system.

The only thing is that if you use a micronized product - be careful - that stuff is so fine it will hit your throat a choke you. You could end up coughing up a big cloud of powder.
