Default pre-workout

i did a search, and couldn't find exactly what i wanted to know (or maybe im just dumb or didnt look hard enough), but i just simply want to know some people's opinions on pre-workout supp. I'm taking no-explode right now, and its ok, but i realize that its basically just caffiene, and maybe i could be taking something better for a pre-workout?

im 19, 150 lbs

thanx for the link. i read it and understand most of it, but im wondering which suppliment would be the best to take before working out, as getting the right food before working out is hard being that i live in college and eat whatever the cafateria is making. looking for something that gives me good pumps and energy, but fufills all the other pre-workout needs 2. or should i just stick with the no-explode.

This is what I do pre-workout...IMO it kicks no explode's ass.
4gr citrulline malate
4gr beta alanine
5gr creatine monohydrate
20-40gr dextrose
20-40gr maltodextrin
Propel Fitness Water Powder Packet

If you can, go to the grocery store and get some stuff that you can eat before working out. That way you won't have to depend on the cafeteria..or you can supplement those meals with something from the store. Even when I eat perfectly pre-workout, I still take my shake...it's awesome. I f***ing hate lifting without it.

As far as something giving you a pump...you're going to make your own pump. People spend lots of money buying NO products that will make them look pumped up, but it really does nothing for you..........

Man, if I took dextrose preworkout I'd crash hard after about 25 minutes of lifting!

Same, I take protein and oatmeal 1 hour before working out. Now I just stick to CEE pre workout. Leaves me more money to spend on food.

Wow, that's interesting. I haven't had a problem yet. I'll try moving it to post workout and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the info

I usually use some gaterade powder pre workout and not much at that, maybe 15-20g of carbs worth, with bcaa's, citruline, and beta alanine, sometimes i throw in some taurine if need be. I havent seen any crash from the carbs, then again I'm only in the gym for 45min or so, then I grab another shake.

I take dextrose AND malto and never have a problem. The people that have a problem a probably slamming the whole thing at once. Take half then sip the rest if it's possible to do that. 80 grams of carbs pre is a little much though.

But whatever you do don't spimp on PRE workout. Whether it's whole food an hour before or a shake immediately pre....just don't depend solely on post. Personally, anybody who has some whey or something and won't take a little protein on board before a workout is just being silly. As long as you've had some carbs earlier then protein is the most important thing. But I like to do both carbs and protein immediate pre because I need all the fuel and calories I can get.

As far as money there is nothing cheaper than malto and dex.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

Well, usually I prefer a slower digesting carb preworkout.. Maltodextrin, oatmeal, or even a banana which is what I eat. I've always crashed, so my experience is negative with dex. The only thing that really matters preworkout is the protein/BCAA's. Everything else isn't a necessity and is more just personal preference. Personally, I could see using the alanine since the bulk powder is really cheap. Other than that, I'd keep the creatine mono postworkout as well.

What I've done over the past ten years has always been the same. I wake up an hour before I'm supposed to hit the gym. If I'm well rested I'll make a small serving of oatmeal to eat along with 60 grams of whey protein, and maybe 200 mg of caffeine.. Wham! Nowadays, it's easier to eat a large banana when I wake up while watching tv. Then about 10 minutes before I leave I'll drink the protein, done. I've never liked No2's ever, but if I ever wanted to get a huge "pump" at the gym, the only thing that really worked great was a big scoop of waxy maize preworkout.
