Protein Shake help...
Right now i'm using some BS protein shake before my workout and my post-workout meal is usually a chicken bowl with pinto beans and brown rice. I need help figuring out exactly which combo of shakes i should be using pre and post-workout. I saw some threads with references to diff. shakes people use although most were abbreviated. Any suggestions for what to purchase and use for both Pre and Post-workout shakes would be greatly appreciated. Again, i'm lookin for specific names of shakes, mix, w/e, anything i can run over to Max Muscle/GNC and pick up would be helpful as well, but i'm down to order shit online if that is better. Thanks. ;)

DShot, I use Whey Isolate with 50/50 ratio of dextrose/maltodextrin for post workout shake.
Through out the day I use a Whey concentrate/isolate mix. My last meal before going to sleep is either 1 cup cottage cheese or cottage cheese with a scoop of protein powder or a protein shake consisting of Miscellar/cassein mix formula. |
Just by some On Whey, it's cheap and easy to mix. I like my preshake mixed with flax and creatine and my post dex/maltodex protein and creatine.

Thanks guys, i'll head over to the supplement place and dial myself in.

I too live in CA and I think Max Muscle is very expensive. I wouldn't shop there. I usually mix my own stuff. I recommend N-Large-2, some whey isolate, creatine, dextrose, and a seperate container of maltodextrin. This is what I do with these:
preworkout: 3 spoonfuls of dextrose 5 grams of creatine 1-2 scoops of VP2 (Whey Isolate) 1 heaping scoop of maltodextrin - I do this because you need a fast acting whey to get absorbed as you workout. The dextrose and maltodextrin (carbs) will also sustain energy levels while you lift. If I don't take them, I usually feel sick to my stomach when I lift. Postworkout #1: 2 scoops of N-Large-2 (weightgainer, it's a half serving) 1 heaping scoop of VP2 5-10 grams creatine 1000 mg vitamin C 1 vitamin supplement 1 mineral supplement - The vitalmin and mineral supplement is the kind you take 3 times a day with food so it's a low dose, not a full on multi. 2 scoops of N-Large-2 has about 25 grams of protein and about 45 grams of carbs. I add this to a scoop of VP2 which has about 23 or so grams of protein. Postworkout #2: 2 scoops of N-Large-2 1 scoop of VP2 - I drink this one a half an hour after the first one to continue supplying my muscles with what they need. Postworkout #3: A big meal. |
Thanks 0311, i saw your post on the "split" post-workout shake and that's when i began rethinking my own shake system. Where would you recommend getting the supplies for this system? (dextrose, matlodextrin, VP2) In order to have the creatine from the shakes working correctly will i have to be taking creatine throghout the day? I remember when i was taking the Apex Volumizer, i had to take like 10 pills a day, i do not remember what that calculates in grams, but... i supposed the creatine is optional anyhow eh?
