Default Wal-Mart style of protein supplements? Worse or just the same?

I usually buy like Optimum Nutrition but a friend of mine tells me he saves money by buying his protein powder at WalMart for a lot cheaper. You think this would be just as effective if you use a lot? Or is it a lot worse?

If it is a good idea, why does no one do it?

I use Body Fortress products (protein/creatine) and It's let me lift the heaviest (by far) weight I've ever lifted in my life. In HS, I couldn't bench 225 once, not even to save my life (it was stuck on me once). Just yesterday, I did 225 8 times. It works, really nicely.

There is a lot of hype about the high-$ products, since they get all the pros to 'say' they 'use' their products, and everyone else buys them, thinking they're greater, or magically ultra-potent.

Some of the more expensive protein supplements have more than just whey protein. If you think that you are getting a benefit from the additional stuff in the expensive protein supplement then you might find it worth paying more. Personally, I buy EAS Whey Protein from Sam's Club (5lb for ~$30).

You are probably talking about the Body Fortress products. I would say they are the best bang for the buck. They are a great start and really all that most people need. If you are, say bodybuilding for a living, then you might want to invest in some of the higher-end products, but for the average joe, the BF brand is just fine.

I have noticed with Body Fortress I have dropped 4 pounds in a week with my daily excercise routine.
