Default where to start

i'm new here but i've been lifting off and on for about 6 years. i'm 22 now and started when i was 16. it's time to get down to business but i'm not sure where to start. i'm 6'0" 220lbs. should i bulk then cut or should i cut then bulk. my goal is to be about 200 lbs solid. i know that nothing happens over night. i have pretty good thickness in my chest and arms but most of my body fat % is in my core. what can i do for that. anything will help. thanks alot . sup norris

if you want to get cut all you have to do is eat right, do cardio, and lift. Whats your bf %?

Resistant core, use weights when doing sit ups, ankle weights with hanging leg raises. Remember the core muscle is same as any other muscle. Work on theme just like you work on your arms, ex: 3x10 kinda idea.

for the bf% you got pictures so we can guess? Well good luck with your goals because i sure can use that 20lb you wanna loose.

If your midsection is where you tend to accumulate the majority of your fat, keep in mind that there's no such thing as 'spot reducing.' Simply strengthening your core muscles won't strip away the BF in that area.

As far as getting your BF checked, most gyms offer a body comp analysis. Some do the first one free. If they do charge for it, it won't be much. Keep in mind, they're generally not all that precise (all depending on the competence of the trainer/assessor administering the tests) but it will give you a general idea of where you're sitting.

If you think you're sitting around 20% right now, I'd say you need to go into a cut first. Then once you've dropped your BF a bit, you can reevaluate what you want to improve on. But get your BF checked first to make sure.

I would be training my abs, 3 times (heavy) a week. Figure 8's with the a 100lbs Db rules, wood chops, cable crunches, its all good. Just needs to be heavy.

Anything weighted or resistant thats the whole point. if ou just sit there and do 100 sit ups.. your just wasting your time it equals out to like 30 situps with 10 dumb bells.. just hold 25 db in each hand and do sit ups 3x10 ankle weighted hanging leg lifts 3x10 you can do it with the pull up position do em slow... remember HEAVY its just like any other muslce part your working out. They don't recover faster or grow faster.

I would do a cut first, nothing major, 10 lbs or so.

Don't go gungho with the ab work though. Just do your cardio, hit the weights, and do some ab work. Pick one or two ab exercise that you like, and can add extra resistance to. Do the heavy ab work 2-3 times a week and do one exercise (3-5x10 range) when you do it.
