Default Whey & Creatine Question

Is it okay to mix my creatine with my whey protein shakes, or do I need to mix with water, juice or gatorade?

Its perfectly alright to add your creatine in with your whey shakes. The benefit of adding it to fast acting carbs is that you are improving the transport of creatine to the muscle cells, which is why people suggest using it with juice/gatorade or dextrose/maltodextrin.

So, it would be okay to mix with protein pre-workout and even better to mix with Gatorade post-workout. Correct?

If its creatine mono, then you have to have a transporter (fast acting carbs) or you will piss it out. If its CEE then you don't need to worry about a transport.

I think the whey and the gatorade will pretty much do the same job as far as a transport.

^^^^Yeah, whey has been shown to work pretty well with the creatine. You can add some carbs to your whey to if your concerned or do the creatine with gatorade or grape juice first and then follow with the protein a little later. Personally I mix my whey and carbs altogether for post workout and have the creatine then.

Default What about this mix?

What if I mix creatine, Whey and glutamine in my pre and post shake?
I also take BCAA with these shakes and was thinking of adding L-Arginine?

Thanks

Well instead of arginine add citruline malate. Keep in mind that creatine doesn't disolve it just gets suspended so if the shake is big or you take a while to drink it it can settle to the bottom. It's also not to stable in liquids (although I think this is over emphasized). But anyway keep stirring it or spoon it into you mouth and wash it down if you need to.

Add some high GI carbs, at least into your post (I do pre and post) and you'll be on to something. You'll need at least 7 grams of bcaa, btw.

I also heard that taking exta glutamine after your workout isn't the best thing because it is fighting for absurbtion with the glutamine in your whey (if it has it, mine does).....Not sure if this is true or not.

Well if the whey has added glutamine then there is only so much of one amino you can expect to absorb effeciently at one time that is true and there also may be competition with other aminos that compete for absorption from the same transporters. But I don't think that the typical amounts here would overwhelm you AND most of the glutamine gets utilized by the GI tract anyway (which is a good thing) and it really takes a lot to raise blood levels. That is if you think there is a benefit to extra glutamine which I still am not sure of other than it's benefits to the GI tract and the immune system which ain't gonna hurt, that's for sure.

Most whey products, if they don't have added glutamine will not have a lot of natural glutamine but mostly glutamic acid.
