Default Dry Sauna

Sauna after weight training, 20 to 30 min., does this have any bad effects on training gains? Also what about after cardio? I searched Sauna but only found posts related to weight loss.

THe only weight you would lose would be water weight. I suppose you might burn a few extra calories because you're sweating but not much.

I think they are generally healthy if you replenish your fluids and don't stay in too long. etc I can't see any negative affects to your weight training as long as you get your proper PWO nutrition first.

I can't think of a good reason to get in a sauna after a workout.

Thumbs down Hmmm...

A room full of nasty, naked, sweaty dudes... half of whom don't wear as much as a towel, and sit their ass crack right on the wood bench.... I'd rather shove a glass rod up my $%*# then break it.

That's even worse than a public hot tub... which is just a dick & ass cappuccino...

if you ever go into a sauna and there is a tall teenage guy in there with an ipod on looking like he wants to curl up and die or maybe just quit wrestling for long enough to drink a gatorade, please say hi, i will say hi back

Those Ipod's can hold up in that heat? I took a book in and the pages started falling out. Good thing it was a library book. So it looks like unless your trying to make weight for a match, the time would be better spent on something else.

I would say to make sure you drink a good amount of water, I'd drink at least a liter (your size may be diff). Then, your body won't be starved of water at any time while your in. Remember, water is ESSENTIAL for all body functions, muscle-building included.

I agree w/ Ross. I'd go in on a non-weights, non-recov. day.

Yeah, I'm doing 3 full body days lifting and alternating LISS and HIIT 3 days, 1 day off. Just thought maybe it was more beneficial for recovery than it is. Thanks for the feed back.

Haha, I would not be in there if it weren't to make weight for a match. I'm surprised about the book - at the sauna near me people have newspapers and magazines and stuff in there, and yeah, I listened to my iPod the whole time without issues. The headphone cord was getting kind of frighteningly hot, though... I almost thought it was gonna melt!

As for recovery, I like moist heat (steamroom) better personally.

On a related note, has anyone here tried ice baths as a part of recovery? I don't know if it would be effective for recovering from strength training, but for wrestling we do them frequently and it works wonders relieving soreness and things. Just curious what the general opinion was.
