Most books tell you what they think an average person is willing to do, not necessarily what is BEST. What is BEST is typically too "hard".

For instance I can either do cardio or weight training in one day, not both. A more dedicated person would do both. I have other priorities pulling me, though I know the best thing for my health is to do both several times a week.
