Question Building on a budget

I ma 26yrs old and 160lbs. My goal is to be as big as Benoit was or Lashley/Cena of WWE is. I was told by a customer at the store I work at that I would top out at around 220lbs if I did this and to keep away from Creatine because it can cause kidney failure. He also told me that I would be eating about 8 times a day which I pretty much have always done just not the right stuff. Here's the deal, I don't know what to eat or what supps to take. I currently use 100% Why Protein and 2200 Weight Gainer Gold from GNC Performance. I don't have the means to goto a gym and all I have to work with is a weight bench, a max of 100lbs of weight, a curl bar and 2 dumbells. About a year ago I used to work out every M-W-F but did not notice any results but my wife, friends and Navy recruiter told me that they did. I am going to go in the Army soon an would like to bulk up, but I don't have anyone around here to help me so I come to you. Please help me in this, I also have a high metabolism and that is why I use the weight gainer since it is difficult for me to gain weight. Also, I don't have money to spend on a lot due to having 2 kids and living off food stamps for the moment. So I'm looking for a budgeted way of making this possible. All help and suggestions are appreciated.

Well for starters, when you post up, hit the submit button once, that way you dont end up with 4 or 5 threads all with the same post. no worries though, your first time here so I wont break your balls about it.

I'll be honest, its going to be hard to build the kind of mass you want in your situation. 100lbs of wieghts really isnt going to cut it for putting on solid muscle mass. Do you have a YMCA or some other community oriented healthy club in your area? Or perhaps you can find some used wieghts at a garage sale, or a friend who doesnt use his anymore?

The second thing i will say is this, if you are planning on going into the army, bulking up may not be what you really want. Others on the board know better then I, but the army will have you running all day long for weeks on end. That type of cardio will destroy a lot of the muscle you are going to work so hard on packin on. Perhaps a more balanced aproach will get you into cardiovascular shape for what is coming in the army.

Just for refrence, I believe Cena is roughly 240lbs, so for you to pack on 80lbs before you go into the army is going to be almost impossible (since you said it was "soon"). Also, creatine will not cause kidney failure in a healthy adult male, creatine is completely safe IMO, and I have read no published research to the contrary. I would be long dead by now if it did.

I would check out either bill starr's 5x5 or ripptoe 5x5 (search for them here there is plenty of explination on these programs), they are great for mass if you have the wieghts you need, and add in some cardio on your off lifting days.

I hope this helps, I dont want to discourage you, just want to let you know what I think.

hrdgain makes a really good point about the Army running you a lot. When I went through basic training in the Air Force, I had a guy in my flight was an amature bodybuilder and that guy really struggled. He could never eat enough to keep his mass and he did so much running and pushups that he couldnt hold onto the mass he came in with. So take his advice and just focus soley on cardio and conditioning and then when you get to your first assignment you can take full advantage of the gym they have there.

I would throw out the weightgain 200 from GNC, it's basically just maltodextrin and whey. Obviously you would need to increase your calories, and get 1.5x your bodyweight in protein.

Now, as far as training goes, you wont get far with what you have. You need to be able to squat, and ramp up weight in everything you do. Since the goal is to get stronger every workout. If you're really serious, go to a gym and just do it. Because it'll be a whole lot more expensive to buy all the stuff you really need if you're serious.

You ought to squat 3 times a week and increase 5lb every time for as long as you can (you can get a shitload stronger on the squat so you would want to do it as often as you can increase). Bench press, overhead press, barbell row, chinups, are all great for the uppre body. Do those once or twice a week and increase as often as you can. And deadlifts are great also but I would do them a little less frequently since they are a very taxing lift. You can increase 10lb a week on these probably.

Well that's the advice I have as far as training goes. Do those lifts and get brutally strong on them and you'll grow like a weed. Once you start in the Army you really dont have much choice but what they tell you. Their training isnt exactly optimal for mass building so dont bother once you start with them. Just eat as much as you can and hope you can at least maintain your weight once they start training.

You will not grow with 100lb bench... and when your in the army your gonna run like you were running a marathon every single day. Which equals your gonna lose alot of calories so i dont know down two of those 2200 weight gainer. You don't need the weight gainer with the whay.. who ever told you that your gonna top off at 220 is just . creatine is good its stored in your brain and in red meat ummm steak! Do some research before you take it if you want but what i do is take it for two months and give it a rest for a week or two (i notice my muscles extreamly harder and denser, no mass was lost.) All you need is heavy weights, dedication, motavation, patient its gonna hurt but no pain no game right?. Eat, lift heavy, rest and repeat. Make sure your not taking your shakes for a meal replacement because its not. Fast motabalism thats fine because i'm sure everyone else here does too just eat eat eat eat and eat. BTW how tall are you got any starting pictures? Good luck with the army.

oh question... what flavor whay and weight gainer are you using from GNC does it taste the same? stop going to GNC over priced and driven by commission so they'll sell anything expensive to you. All i go there for is the vanilla whay.
