Default Dips and pullups

I can row just about as much as I can bench.

But I can do way more dips than I can do pullups.

Why do you think that is?

My initial thought is the location of the center of mass in relation to where I'm pushing/pulling from.

My initial thought is that your triceps are stronger than your lats, while your tri's, chest, and anterior deltoid (bench muscles) are as strong as your posterior deltoid, scapula, bi's, and rhomboid (row muscles).

I'd say that it's hard to compare a vertical pull to a horizontal one since you're not using quite the same set of muscle combinations.

I'd say you're normal. Not many people can actually do a true pull up but most people can do at least a few dips.

After more consideration, rows and bench are antagonistic movements, where as the antagonist to chins would be the overhead press, not the dip.
