Default "Explode!" Fact?

Well as usual, the trainer at the gym keeps telling me to explode(as in push with all my strength) when lifting something, then lower the weight slowly.

Today, some guy passes by and tells me exploding causes the muscle to tear.

I am interested in hearing what you guys think about this.

Be as explosive as you can. Being explosive will recruit the most muscle fibers and yield the most benefit. When you're lifting weights, you're causing little tears. That's why you might be sore the day after a workout; not because of lactic acid buildup. This is a good thing & it is a stimulus for muscle growth.

I agree 100% but be as explosive as you can while still maintaining form. Improper form causes serious muscle strains (not in a good muscle building way like Ross said). Good form with enough weight/volume causes microtears... the good kind.

Right on.

But you don't always need to lower the weight slowly if slowly means super slo mo.

You just need to lower it "under control".

Sometimes, however, people do purposely lower very slow to extend "time under tension".

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.
