You got me. I've never seen that happen before. But anything can be dangerous. Making it MORE dangerous is not smart.

Course I have to use my safety spotters cuz I have no spotter. Nevertheless I have gotten stuck under a bar before. I hurt my back getting out of it in fact. But I've never used a weight, knock on wood, that resulted in such catastrophic failure as these vids. I think in a way "spotters" may give some people a false sense of security and cause people to do dumb things. A spotter cannot catch a loaded bar when something so sudden as that happens. On the flip side I have seen accidents that could be blamed on the spotter.
