Default Farmers walk?

So i just recently came across an article dictating that Jay Cutler had the ability to farmers walk with 400 pounds in each hand for a certain required distance (didnt say).... Quite an achievement if you ask me.

I was just wondering what are the benefits of performing the farmers walk?, and should it be added into a weight training regimen although it is commonly a "STRONG MAN" type of lift?
