Default how long to wait after eating

Timing working out is a bit of a pain for me.

When I get home I want to eat. But I also want to get the damn workout out of the way. Dont want to do it just before sleeping.

How long must one wait after eating to work out? Or alternatively, can one workout on an empty stomach, or after having eaten just a handful?

Thanks!
Dan

I like to wait about 60-90 minutes after eating...you could try eating a combo of a protein and a easier digesting carb, that way you won't feel really full...just avoid fats/fiber in pre and post workout foods

The best think is to have a meal 2 hours before your workout, because of your timing(it depends on what you eat).
Before you go to workout, take some Vitamin C and some strong coffe, they are both anti-oxidents and the coffe will give you a kick to work harder

Pre and post workout nutrition are the most over-analyzed parts of training.

If eating a small meal before training helps, then it's fine. Just time it to where it is comfortable--the bigger the meal, the longer you'll have to wait to train.

But you can go straight to training from work with out a "pre workout meal." As long as your overall nutrition is in place then don't worry about it. Some of the pre/post workout nutrition hype is just supplement companies wanting you to buy their products.

If you can eat a large meal and have an intense workout a minute after, go for it

There is no rule of thumb, if your comfortable eating before a work out do it if not wait

I usually finish eating around 5:30-5:45 and training by 6:30. Whatever you are comfortable with, really.

I would rather workout on an empty stomach than a full stomach. I suggest taking a protein shake 30 mins before your working and then eating after your workout.
