And, it's not a bad idea for the spotter to actually spot-even if his hands are 6 inches under the bar!!

That's not the spotters fault, John, I don't think. Sucks...but I'm out here before me and D have a battle of the vids again

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

I'm not sure that having a false grip is to blame here either. I have benched for well over fifteen years with a false grip and have never had that issue. Looks to me like stupidity would be the top contributing factor to this little incident. Gotta know your limitations, and it is pretty clear from this video that he doesn't.

I agree with you and I did lift this way until a few years back when my rotator tore and I really wished I'd had a better grip on the bar when it did. But, the guy in this video sets himself up for this desaster by bouncing the bar around in his hands just before the lift. Whether it had anything to do with the spotter or not is unknown because the weight that is on the bar could be something he had done easily for reps prior to this happening and the spotter could have been comfortable letting him go with it on his own.

Well not to beat a dead horse but many people complain if a spotter has his hands on the bar. Most people, actually. A "spotter" is not an "assistant" he is a rescue..but nobody is gonna catch a bar like that.

But I agree completely with you. I didn't look so much like he was out of his league to me just that he was handling the bar like a dumbass.

I mean from a technical standpoint, spotting a bench press involve having both your hands on the bar, inside the grip of the lifter, with an alternating grip. From that standpoint it is the fault of the spotter, but most people don't want the bar to be touched and for very good reason. But my point is that nobody can be standing back like that and miraculously catch a bar that suddenly drops. You need to know proper technique. So I can see both ways but to me..that's an accident that could have been avoided.
