Your muscles will recover all that they can withing 90 seconds of your lift, so I would rest between 60 and 90 seconds.

^Really? I had read that it was 120 sec (2min), not 90. Thanks for the headsup.

I just read the part about the Ipod. That is THE GREATEST IDEA!! It has worked wonders for me. I find the songs that inspire me most (heavy songs like E40's Tell Me When 2 Go, Rascal Flatt's Stand, and I Will Be Heard, from Hatebreed), upload them N2 my MP3 player, and it helps me get through the last few tough reps. It's almost like NOS, but 4 people!! I read in a weightlifting mag, that it has been proven that subjects can typically lift more reps, when listening to tunes that get them going.

^^ Rascal Flatts is heavy music?? :biglaugh:

I am in a simular boat.
I was lifting for a while at home on my bench, but I had to move and didn't set it back up and didn't join a gym for a while.
Anyway I had to start all over again.
I could barely lift have the weights I was doing b4.
But slowly and surely the weight is coming back on the bar.
And as far as those jerks that show off or talk trash, well that's just thier personality. I bet they don't have many friends and feel insecure so they feel the need to "put other people down".
Rock on! -Pete.

never did the ipod while lifting. i might try it one of these days. really never needed it to get me up. when i lift im in a world of my own.

john917v 06-03-2008 09:15 AM

Rascal Flatts? Chyeah, it's the heaviest!! No, really, it had a profound effect on me-that song basically motivated me to turn my life around-I wasn't some ragin druggie, but I just wasn't motivated/determined.

Monsta, I swear by my MP3 player. It helps me to drown out everything else-the noise in the gym, the music-if I don't like what's being broadcasted, whatever can distract me. If some lil lady needs some help, though, distract away!! It helps me get into a different mindset, one where I don't accept failure (I respect my limits, though). I hear you, having your own state of mind. But, you ought to try it!

yeah one of these days i may try it. i think when i was younger i developed this whoel thought that i am fighting with the weights, an di guess it never left. i put it on and i have to lift it. whether its 1 or 500 pounds. so its more of a dont let it be me type of deal so i sort of build up my own adrenaline i guess. plus im just angry because im not where i should be anyway. so that gives me all the motivation i need. ill def try the ipod thing and see what it does

john917v 06-03-2008 09:37 AM

Hey, Pete, do you like Slipknot (their older, heavier stuff), Godsmack, or Cradle of Filth? They get me going, 2! Inside the Fire from Disturbed is N-Sane!! For the high-intensity/cardio work, I go for high-energy stuff, like Cascada, and other electronic musiq.

I remember your method, Monsta. I had a similar one, where I picture myself competing, and that I must give it everything I had-that I'd just have to exert myself for a short while. I tried yours, and it worx, 2!
