I think i'm going to try adding oatmeal in as a second breakfast. I hate the taste of the stuff, but maybe if I mix in some protein powder and a banana it will be good.
My plan is to keep the PB sandwich in the morning and then supplement the first piece of fruit with the oatmeal. If I manage to keep up with the protein and banana additions, that alone should add a few hundred calories. Hopefully I'll start to develop a taste for it and I can get another bowl in at night.

You may be able to out eat your buddies but that doesn't really matter. You have to be able to do eat big day in and day out. You have to consistently hit your calorie surplus and I guarantee you'll gain weight. In paralell to that if you're training right some of that weight may even be muscle! lol
This is what you need to be focusing on for weight gain:
Bench Press
Deadlifts
Military Press
Squats
That's what I base my workout around. Each day has it's lift. (mon, tues, thurs, friday) And then of course some accessory work after that.
Anyway, these are my ideas and trust me it's been a battle for me to get from my 6' 155lb self to 200lb but after several years I am there. I could have done it a lot quicker if I knew what I knew now ... but it's a learning process.

Definitely taking your advice to heart. I tore myself up last night in the gym, including a military press. For the sake of comparison, how much are you lifting in the military press?
I'm heading out in a bit to do legs, maybe some cardio. Definitely going to give deadlifts and squats a shot. I'll have to see with the squats because they tend to hurt my knees, but I'll see.

Yikes, I have a ways to go lol First time I tried it, I used 60. Today I used 70. It's a rough one!
I did the squats and deadlifts on Saturday. My legs and lower back are STILL sore lol
Didn't do TOO good of a job eating yesterday, but not bad. I've been good with the protein shakes, every day, though so far.
Also my friend just gave me an ill black bean recipe, so those are probably going to be more of a staple.

My military press was very humble to begin with as well. Don't worry, it will come up with time. Just like everything else.
