How soon after waking up?

Default How soon after waking up?

My schedule is extremely limited right now, but I want to get back into a lifting routine. Long story short, I might be able to lift between 4AM and 4:30AM. However, I would almost literally have to jump out of bed and hit the weight stack.

How soon after waking up is it "safe" to lift assuming that I want to build up to the point of doing a 5x5 again. Am I risking injury by starting to lift about 2 minutes after waking up?

yes. the discs in your back are filled up with fluid while you sleep...and for around an hour after you wake up. and generally...you want to avoid bending over for that hour after you wake up.

it may or may not affect everyone...

God bless you if you can motivate yourself that soon after getting out of bed. It takes me a good hour to warm up and get my mind right.

If that's the only time you can do it and your willing to do it , then go ahead and do it. Just don't go overboard and make sure you warm up properly.

I would say if you took an extended warmup and some dynamic work beforehand then you could probably do it but sounds like you're on a pretty tight schedule. I know for me its hard enough just to haul my ass out of bed at 7 to get to work at 8. Let alone getting so I could have a couple extra hours...lol

It should take at least 1 hour after you get up.When you get up your heart is still asleep so you have to do some things so it gets in rhythm before even thinking of going to train

some days im in the gym within a half hour of waking up. my schedule is tight as well. i make sure i stretch out and get enough (read: NOT A LOT) food in my stomach before lifting. i like a good pre-workout supp to wake up a bit too.

i lift early before class so i don't have to put up with the 30 morons that will be in the gym after class.
