It's been proven that the more you stretch your muscles in between reps (going all the way down/up until you feel a good stretch) the more muscle fibers are recruited. I actually tried doing those situps laying on one of those big round balls in the gym and using a 25 lb plate. I hurt for 4 days, and that was with only doing 2 sets of 20.
