Nah, not JUST when you say that stuff

You know, I think that there is some small possibility that someone could make a decent argument for measurable improvement over the course of two weeks as well... that is the fun of all this stuff, we never know until we try, and then some of us could say "told you so" and others of us would go "well, I'll be damned." And even better than that, I'm guessing that if we all did the exact same thing, we would still not have a convincing argument one way or another.

I really only chose my statement based on the fact that I think most people get carried away and over-do it. That being the case, I think that the safer default is to not change the way he trains for this contest. Will it give him absolutely top performance results? Maybe not, but it will ensure that come game day he can perform. I'll be willing to bet that he hears some meathead in his gym say something to the effect of "I've been practicing this like hell all week and I'm SUPER sore!"

Thinking about it now, I could have easily made some kind of case for a "Grease the Groove" type of program that had him hitting sub maximal sets, spreading out the volume over the course of the entire day.

So many fun ways to tackle a problem
