Default Ab Work

During my ab routine I tend to do weighted crunches and situps. What I have noticed is that I am developing a potbelly sixpack (for a lack of a better term), rather than my abs getting flat and ripped it is bulging out and ripped, something similar to Chuck Liddell. In any case I was wondering if doing the weighted ab work would cause this. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks
