Default New to gym

I just got my gym membership and have since been about 5 times. I have never seen anyone deadlifting at my gym so I'm not exactly sure what to do, considering there's no designated area/bars for DLing. Should I just take the barbell from the squat or bench rack and start lifting away? Thanks
