How 'bout biking? I (some of) my cardio on my bike, either off road or on it.
Like everyone says...diet is the key. I know cutting out the crappy food is hard (Lord knows, it was tough for me!). Here is one way to go about changing what you eat: write it down BEFORE you eat it. I kept a little notepad w/ me and every time I was going to eat something, I would write it down. I would also notate what I thought the food had in it (for example I wrote 'p' for protein, 'c' for carbs, 'f' for "bad" fat, 's' for sugars, 'ca' for lots of calories, etc.) and an exclamation point for lots
You'd be surprised how fast your mind changes when you write: Big Mac p, c, f! ca! Fries c, f! Coke s!
Plus, do you do your own food shopping? What I did at first is made a list of all the food I wanted to eat for a week and gave it to someone else to buy for me! This way, I wouldn't be tempted to mosey down the ice cream aisle (my weakness!). When you only have good food around to eat, all the better.
And, hey, I'm not hyper-psycotic about my diet. I cheat a bit. Actually, today is my cheat day. So I can have some pizza and ice cream (not at the same time tho'!). Even during the week a bit, I'll get a burger and a beer for lunch...
Summary: try a bike for cardio. write down everything you eat for a week--the diet will change.
