Default Night Training???

I need some solid opinions. Starting to work out again after many years of neglect. I am a second shifter. Was never a big morning person. Get home about 11PM and am usually awake till about 2AM or so. Can one train at night before bed. Good or bad?

I would'nt say it's bad. The only thing is it may be hard to sleep right after training

Based on you getting off work around 11pm, you start at what, 3pm? So with that in mind and you going to bed at 2 am, sleeping for 8 hours, and getting up at 10am, why not just go to the gym around 11am? I wouldnt exactly call that morning.

Well, that's cutting it close. I have to leave my house to be in roll call for 2PM. That will only give me one hour for breakfast, workout, shave and shower... With my schedule it seems better for me to get in a workout when I get off duty

You have to be there at 2pm, or leave your house at 2pm? Whats your job?

You could always try going to bed a bit earlier and waking earlier.

State Correctional Officer. By the time I get home, eat, and unwind it's usually about 2AM. I have an hour drive. Gotta be at roll call at 2PM. Been second shift for years and kinda geared to those hours... Working out at night is no problem for me. I can still fall asleep.

Well if you can handle training at those hours imo it would be nice to go to the gym w/ no one there.

As long as you faithfully stick to lifting ONLY at night, your body will adapt and you'll be fine. I used to lift in the early evening for years. My work forced me to change my schedule and lift within an hour of waking up. It took my a few months to start progressing again and get used to lifting really heavy so early in my morning. Now, I'm so used to it that I wake my ass up early even during my off days from work!
