Default noob needs help!

Alright for about 2 months now ive been training at my high school 3-4 times a week with free weights on a training plan that our coach made with our trainer. The split is all upper body one day and all lower body the next day. On fridays we do manual resistance training along with some cardio. So on a normal week looks like this: 2 upper body workouts, 2 lower body workouts, and a all over / cardio day.
Sadly to say my gains haven't been up to par. Ive put on a couple of ibs but not even close to what I would. My maxes were very poor recently and thats not as fun as it sounds
Ive been thinking about changing the split to maybe chest/abs and back/arms and a legs day but Im not sure if it would really help or not. My diet=anything i can get my hands on that has protein (and not alot of fat) and ive been taking whey protein and BCAA (both postworkout)
so the main question behind the babbling would be, keep the 2 day split or switch to a different split ( if so what kind of split)
thanks mucho
