you wont get a definate answer for this. you just have to try everything out yourself and see what works for you. different times work for different people. like wolf says he goes no less than three minutes and i try to not even get to 2. so you just ahve to try different stuff

its not that difficult....westsiders' and powerlifters in general take LONG rest intervals....you just gotto find your groove. start out with 3-4 minutes and if you feel good, reduce the time....then if you hit a particular weight where you need to rest more, rest more...

but i do use a stop watch and i do 3 minutes atleast.

word up on that.

If you're training for pure strength then rest as long as you need. If you're training more endurance style/sports training then rest for shorter times to work on your muscular endurance.

I stick to 90-120 seconds rest between sets, longer for legs though. I stretch and flex legs during resting and it comes out to about two and a half -3 minutes. Stay consistent, dont have long conversations with people while resting cause it will cause the muscle to lose its pump and end up having to warm up again.

You are getting answers all over the park on this thread. Truth be told... you want to get the most work out in the shortest amount of time. And since you want to gain muscle mass... your muscles actually grow when you are resting AWAY from the gym.

Work hard... with intensity... and be sure to supplement yourself with pre, during and after workout shakes to replenish the muscles with protein and energy.

Why not do even more work/intensity by stretching out the workout another 10-15 minutes (by increasing time between sets)? It's not going to significantly cut into rest time away from the gym.

Like everyone else has already said, it depends on the individual & his goals.
