Default Soreness?

I feel like I'm cheating myself. I went to the gym yesterday to work shoulder and back, and I felt that I killed myself. I felt the weight was right meaning that the last set was difficult but I got it up. I'm increasing my lifts and showing improvement, but I feel cheated because I am not sore. Should I be lifting more? I don't know if diet has anything to do with soreness, but I'm not taking any supplements and eating like a madman. Lots of tuna, chicken, eggs, potato's, and pastas. Any advice would help. Thanks guys
