I wouldn't wear a running shoe with a heel because with those real heavy squats how much is that heel going to squeeze? (BTW it will definitely squeeze if you're lifting a decent weight) I'd go with an oly shoe over a running shoe. That heel/sole isn't going anywhere.

Personally I don't see a need to elevate your heel unless you're training for an olympic weightlifting competition (not necessarily the olympics, any sanctioned competition involving oly lifting).

If your ankle mobility and hip mobility is good then you're all set. The heel or heel lift provides more flexibility, mobility and allows you to remain in a more upright position. But all of those effects are artificial, you take away the shoe (or heel lift) and you lose those things.

Back to your original question
-No running shoes
-Weightlifting shoes are expensive so a flat sole shoe with a 5lb plate is an economical choice
