Default Single vs Double

Hi Dan

Maybe I can be of help. First is it possible you have what is called pigeon breast? (have no idea how that name came about…doesn’t’ look like any pigeon I ever saw LOL. One side of the chest is just plain larger. Sometimes if the person is heavy he or she may never notice it until they lose weight. Any building over the chest could make it just that much more pronounced. That being the case not a whole hell of a lot you can do about it.

But, YES YOU CAN build one pec larger than the other.

Do SINGLE cable cross/over. In fact, I’m convinced it does a better job than doubles anyway.

Two reasons:

Doubles allow you to use your back and body weight.

Singles allow you to use MORE WEIGHT, and nothing else can kick in unless you’re doing it wrong.

Stand feet apart (outside shoulders)
Drop body into Low Horse (semi -squat)
Keep back perfectly straight
Bend arm just enough to take stress off the elbow
Place other hand over pec being trained (concentration)
Pull STRAIGHT across chest. Do not cut downward.

And just gage what weight you want for either side.

Cables do not build muscle. They are only good for increasing TUT (time under tension). To utilize cables correctly in training to increase TUT, advanced trainees superset them with a heavy compound lift such as bench/incline presses. Cables should be used in a very slow fasion...6-0-3 tempo. Heavy weight builds muscle. ;) (not IMO, fact)

If you are using double cable flyes, you won't cheat unless you use too much weight. If I was to do 1 arm cables, I'd be fighting to keep my balance unless I decided to use very light weight.

Also, if someone with a "pigeon breast" was to use dumbbell presses, the pecs work independantly to push the same weight up, thus one side will catch up to the other gradually...guaranteed.

I'm not trying to call you out or nothing so don't take offense. I respect the fact that you are trying to take the time to help.

No offense taken.

I most definitely stand corrected. Because I only do single arm cable (bad shoulder… dislocates) I have got it down to a science on heavy weight w/balance. But you mentioned…“in combination with incline bench etc.” That is pretty much all I do for pecs (cable and incline bench/close grip) Got to say, where I train I’m on my own to learn … ‘monkey see….’

I swear I always thought it was the cable that was giving me the size more so than the incline. Thanks for the heads up.

BTW... I just gotta throw this in

Schwartznagger himself is a facialbuilder. He actually had no choice. He would always get ripped for whatever movie he was in but also had close-ups (face) the loss of fat would cause skin folds. Guess he would target mostly upper cheek (will look like high cheek bones) and jawline (pulls back and broadens)
